On November 22, the 2023 Hunan citrus technology seminar and evaluation meeting were held in Baojing County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Shan Yang, an academician of the CAE, the agricultural technicians of Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Hunan Agricultural University and fruit experts around Hunan attended the meeting.
At present, it is the harvest season of citrus in Baojing County. Yang Zhihui, Party secretary of Baojing County, said that thanks to the favorable natural conditions, Baojing has abundant citrus resources with excellent quality. It has planted citrus of 176,000 mu (about 11,733.33 hectares), with an annual output of 140,000 tons and an annual output value of 580 million yuan.
The county has built two large demonstration parks in Qingshuiping Town and Bi’er Town, and a batch of high-standard demonstration bases, with the famous products sold well in many Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
The production of Hunan’s citrus accounts for 12% of the total in China, and over 80% of that of the fruit industry in Hunan. It plays a crucial role in the development of the fruit industry.
On the site, the experts provided suggestions on high-quality parks, trees, and fruits, and the development of the citrus industry.
At this evaluation meeting, a total of 110 samples were received from all over the province. Finally, the varieties provided by Baojing in Xiangxi, Linli in Changde, Wugang in Shaoyang won gold medals.
“Baojing Citrus is delicious and worth promoting,” said Shan Yang, adding that this evaluation meeting aimed to evaluate and discuss the citrus resources in the province, so as to promote the establishment of the technology system of the fruit industry in Hunan.
